This sweet mango and coconut milk homemade soap is a wonderful blend of sun-ripened golden mangoes and creamy coconut milk.
Thanks to One Motivated Mommy reader and fellow soap maker, Norman in Jamaica, I was given this lovely recipe at the peak of mango season, so I knew I had to give this one a try.
If you too would like to try this recipe and you have never made soap before, please read my post Soapmaking for Beginners.
I used fully ripened Julie mangoes and fresh coconut milk in this recipe.

Ingredients
- 2 oz Castor oil
- 12 oz Coconut oil
- 12 oz Olive oil
- 3.85 oz Lye (Sodium Hydroxide)
- 4 oz distilled water
- 1 oz Fragrance or essential oil
- 3 oz Mango puree
- 3 oz Coconut milk
Directions to Make Mango and Coconut Soap
Preparing the Lye Solution
- Get suited up for safety. Put on your safety gear – goggles, long-sleeved top and gloves.
- Weigh your water in a heat-resistant or pyrex container. Note: The water was reduced to accommodate the mango puree and coconut milk.
- Next, weigh your lye in a plastic bowl.
- In a well-ventilated area carefully add the lye to the water (never the other way around) and stir with a stainless steel spoon until the lye is dissolved.
- Set the lye solution aside, in a safe area away from children and pets, to allow it to cool to room temperature.
Prepare the Oils
There are three basic oils used in this recipe – castor, coconut and olive. If your coconut oil is solid, weigh out the 12oz and warm it gently in a double boiler or in the microwave, only enough to melt it.
In your mixing bowl, add all the measured oils.
At this point, I also weigh out my fragrance oil and have it ready to pour at trace. For this mango and coconut soap, I used the Mango Mango fragrance oil from Brambleberry, which worked well with the theme of this recipe. It really smells like ripe mangoes.
You are free to use any fragrance or essential oil you would like or leave this soap unscented with its own natural mango and coconut scent.
Prepare the Coconut Milk
See this post if you would like to know how to prepare the milk fresh from the meat of the coconut.
You can use store-bought coconut milk as well. If you are using the powdered version, prepare it as directed.
Weigh out 3oz and set aside.
Prepare the Mango Puree
Wash and peel the mangoes and cut away the flesh from the seed. In a food processor or NutriBullet, puree the flesh to a pudding consistency.
Weigh out 3 oz and set aside.
Add the mango puree to the coconut milk and stir it well to mix the two.
Now that we have everything prepared, let’s make some Mango Coconut Soap!
Pour the lye solution gently into the oils in the mixing bowl. Depending on your brand of immersion blender, start using the lowest setting, gently working your way up in short bursts while stirring the mixture with the blender.
Once you have reached trace, add the fragrance oil, if used, and the mango coconut puree.
Fold in the puree with a spatula initially, then give it a few pulses with the immersion blender, to ensure that everything is mixed in thoroughly
Pour the soap into your prepared mould.
Set it aside in a safe area where it will be undisturbed for 24 hours. This will allow it to continue going through the saponification process as well as harden.
After 24 hours, your soap should be ready to cut.
Cut it into bars according to your preference and set the bars in an open area to allow them to cure for 4 to 6 weeks. Turn the bars occasionally during the curing process to allow all sides to be exposed to air.
Once they are ready, lather up and enjoy an exotic tropical escape with your Mango and Coconut Handmade soap.
Thanks again to Norman for sharing this recipe.
Is there reduced shelf life by using fresh mango and coconut milk? I love this idea but worries about spoiling.
Thank you !
This soup sound so delicious. Love the mango and Coconutmilk idea. The mango. How long will it last.stay fresh and the pulp. In the soap will it last for long?sorry but a bit not ever thinking make soap with mango. I always help my mom making the old farmers soap with lard fat from cattle soap soda. 😁Now just want to make nice essence soap. Thank you for the recipe. I’m from South Africa. ♥️♥️
Hi, Carien.
I’ve had some of this soap on hand for almost a year and it held up really well. Not only did the fragrance last, but the soap itself got better with age and produced a creamy and bubbly lather. There was no discoloration or dreaded orange spots. Definitely looking forward to our next mango season to make more 🙂
Hi, and thanks for the recipe! About how much soap does this recipe make?
Hi Tava. Thanks for stopping by. This recipe after curing can make approximately 10 bars of soap each weighing around 3.5 ounces each – which is about the standard size for most bars of soap. Hope that helps 🙂
