“The law of attraction states that you will attract into your life–whether wanted or unwanted–whatever you give your energy, focus, and attention to.” – jackcanfield.com

law of attraction

The Law of Attraction became mainstream when The Secret movie by Rhonda Byrne was released in 2006.

Soon the movie was followed by the books The Secret, The Power and The Magic as more and more people wanted further information on how they could change their lives through this ‘new’ way of thinking.

Not having heard of the concept before, some people believed the Law of Attraction originated with The Secret movie but the truth is that information and books on this universal law have been around long before.

Ms Byrne herself was inspired to write The Secret after reading the 1911 book by Wallace D. Wattles, The Science of Getting Rich.

Although the movie featured many interviews with modern-day thinkers, entrepreneurs, authors and even quantum physics professionals, some still have difficulty understanding how changing thoughts can alter their lives.

Different Perspectives on the Law of Attraction

There are many people who have studied and written on the topic and they each have a different approach, explanation or method to tap into the Law of Attraction that would resonate differently to different people. For example:

  • Mr. José Silva, the creator of the Silva Method, was able to show that by deliberately slowing down brain wave activity to the alpha level, one is able to visualize and solve problems with greater success.
  • Dr. Joe Dispenza speaks from a scientific standpoint explaining concepts such as quantum mechanics and neuroplasticity and how changing our thoughts and habits create new connections and neural pathways in the brain.
  • Or some prefer the spiritual and metaphysical teachings of Florence Scovel Shinn and her references to passages in the bible.

Achieving Goals Using the Law of Attraction

Understanding the Law of Attraction and using visualization techniques can be a helpful tool in achieving your goals.  Visualizing your future, for example, is an exercise in knowing yourself and exactly what you want. How can you visualize what you want if you do not know what you want?

Intention and a clear picture of where we would like our lives to go sets the stage for us to move into becoming who we want to be.

“A mental image gives you a framework upon which to work. It is like the drawing of the architect or the map of the explorer. Think over this for a few moments until you get the idea firmly fixed in your mind.”

~William Walker Atkinson

Here are 13 powerful books that can help you to use the Law of Attraction successfully to achieve your goals.

Think and Grow Rich by Napolean Hill

“There is a difference between WISHING for a thing and being READY to receive it. No one is ready for a thing, until he believes he can acquire it. The state of mind must be BELIEF, not mere hope or wish. Open-mindedness is essential for belief.” ~ Napoleon Hill

As A Man Thinketh by James Allen

“A man’s mind may be likened to a garden, which may be intelligently cultivated or allowed to run wild; but whether cultivated or neglected, it must, and will, bring forth. If no useful seeds are put into it, then an abundance of useless weed seeds will fall therein, and will continue to produce their kind.”

― James Allen, As a Man Thinketh

The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace D. Wattles

“There is a thinking stuff from which all things are made, and which, in its original state, permeates, penetrates, and fills the interspaces of the universe. A thought, in this substance, Produces the thing that is imaged by the thought. Man can form things in his thought, and, by impressing his thought upon formless substance, can cause the thing he thinks about to be created.”

― Wallace D. Wattles, The Science of Getting Rich

The Silva Method of Mind Control by Jose Silva

“The discovery that human intelligence can learn to function, with awareness, at altered levels of mind, will go down in history as the greatest discovery of man. It is sure to change our concepts of psychology, psychiatry, mind, and the subconscious.” José Silva

The Game of Life and How to Play it by Florence Scovel Shinn

The invisible forces are ever working for man who is always ‘pulling the strings’ himself, though he does not know it. Owing to the vibratory power of words, whatever man voices, he begins to attract.

The Game of Life, Florence Scovel Shinn

Your Invisible Power by Geneviève Behrend

Everyone visualizes whether he knows it or not. Visualizing is the great secret of success.

Genevieve Behrend

Feeling is the Secret by Neville Goddard

“With your desire defined, quietly go within and shut the door behind you. Lose yourself in your desire; feel yourself to be one with it; remain in this fixation until you have absorbed the life and name by claiming and feeling yourself to be and to have that which you desired. When you emerge from the hour of prayer you must do so conscious of being and possessing that which you heretofore desired.”

― Neville Goddard, Your Faith is Your Fortune

The Power of Your Subconscious Mind by Joseph Murphy

“All of us have our own inner fears, beliefs, opinions. These inner assumptions rule and govern our lives. A suggestion has no power in and of itself. its power arises from the fact that you accept it mentally.”

― Joseph Murphy, The Power of Your Subconscious Mind

The Strangest Secret by Earl Nightingale

“Everything you and I will ever have will come to us as the result of the way we use our minds, the one thing we possess that makes us different from all other creatures.”

― Earl Nightingale, The Strangest Secret

The Law of Attraction: or Thought Vibration in the Thought World by William Walker Atkinson

“Imagination is the first step in creation whether in words or trifles. The mental pattern must always precede the material form.”

William Walker Atkinson

The Genie Within: Your Subconscious Mind – How It Works and How to Use It by Harry W. Carpenter

“Every thought or idea causes a physical reaction. If stimuli are allowed to pass from the conscious mind to the subconscious mind—and are accepted—the idea or thought must be expressed, vocally or physically. If it is consciously repressed, then the thought will be expressed physically, for example:        •    Worry = Ulcers”

― Harry Carpenter, The Genie Within: Your Subconscious Mind

Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself: How to Lose Your Mind and Create a New One by Dr. Joe Dispenza

“The latest research supports the notion that we have a natural ability to change the brain and body by thought alone, so that it looks biologically like some future event has already happened. Because you can make thought more real than anything else, you can change who you are from brain cell to gene, given the right understanding.”

― Joe Dispenza, Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself: How to Lose Your Mind and Create a New One

Psycho-Cybernetics, A New Way to Get More Living Out of Life by Maxwell Maltz

“It is no exaggeration to say that every human being is hypnotized to some extent either by ideas he has uncritically accepted from others or ideas he has repeated to himself or convinced himself are true. These negative ideas have exactly the same effect upon our behavior as the negative ideas implanted into the mind of a hypnotized subject by a professional hypnotist.”
