In my earliest memories, I recall the extent of my toddler learning entertainment was an abacus with a chalkboard and a book about Carla and Boyo. Things have changed a lot since then!

There is so much debate about screen time for children and toddlers. Children today are part of this digital and information age, so I try not to feel too guilty about allowing my toddler access to my iPad.

At just two years old, he knows how to operate the iPad and although he is supervised, I don’t have to worry (too much) about him wandering off into the settings or any of my own apps. I think for the most part he has already checked them all out on his own and decided that my email, e-reader, Audible and other apps are not as interesting as those that I downloaded for him to use.

Although my toddler loves to point out shapes, colours and letters, he is especially fascinated by numbers.

I myself, being a lover of the age in which we live with ready access to learning, I am always on the lookout for great interactive ways for my son to learn.

How I Discovered Kidloland

It was while pregnant with my second baby, browsing the pregnancy app that I spent my free time on, that another mommy mentioned that her son was learning a lot from this app called Kidloland.

I opened my app store immediately and downloaded the free version.

As with anything else that I download for my son to use, I checked it out first. I was thoroughly impressed!

At the end of the first day, I did not hesitate to purchase the full version as he was already learning so much from it.

Although I discovered and purchased this app on my own, I was offered a free subscription in exchange for my honest review.

My Review

Kidloland Old Mcdonald

Kidloland is an award-winning, educational app for children under five years of age. It is very child-friendly and safe.

It features:

  • Over 400 Nursery Rhymes and learning songs all of which are interactive
  • Colouring Activities
  • Fairy Tales
  • Fun Activities such as popping musical balloons, splatting jelly and veggies
  • Interactive Flash Cards such as shapes, vegetables, animals, birds, vehicles, fruits and more.
  • Phonics and Early Reading
  • Colours
  • Learn ABC
  • Numbers
  • Weather and Seasons
  • Months of the Year
  • Musical Games

…and much more.

Another of the things that caught my eye is the inclusion of Fables that I grew up with such as ‘The Fox and the Grapes’, ‘The Dog and the Bone’, the ‘Hare and the Tortoise’ among many others. I have always loved these as they have such great morals to the stories that we can all learn from.

This app has so many high-quality illustrations, learning activities and wonderful animations to teach our little ones, that I believe that there is no need to spend money on any other app. This one does it all and has enough to keep them entertained and learning new things all the time.

It is so much fun to interact with that I have to confess here that sometimes, I ‘Jelly Splat’ the colours on my son’s behalf.

I also love that we do not have to be connected to the internet to access the features of the app and there are no irritating advertisements. Games, songs and activities can be downloaded beforehand to have ready access when we are not online. We can be in the car on the road and he can learn, and play along with his favourite games.

The lullabies are so beautiful and soothing, that I use them to help lull my four-month-old baby to sleep. That is a bonus!

This is definitely one app that I would recommend highly for learning and entertainment.
